As a coach or trainer, your energy and passion for what you do is evident when delivering coaching or training in real life; but how can you transfer that energy to online courses?
Taking your teaching online requires more thought than just writing out a course and adding it to your website; you need to ensure that the learner is engaged, in the present moment and absorbing what you’re teaching them.
Transferring your passion for teaching to the digital world
There are a number of ways that you can convey your passion, energy and personality for what you teach into an online course, let’s look at a few of them.
Convey your personality into your written course content
When you deliver your course in person, your natural personality and language come through without you actually having to think about it, but you don’t have that interactivity with online courses.
So to get your personality across, try to make sure that the language (or words) you use in real life is conveyed in your written content – there’s no need to make your writing clinical, write as you would speak.
This will inject your personality into the online course and if done right, the learner will almost be able to hear you speak the words they are reading.
Add videos to your course content
By adding videos to your course, not only can you provide a visual element to your content, you can use this element to ensure your personality comes across whilst delivering your teaching.
Depending on the course, all of your content may be video based – if it is, then you have the perfect opportunity to ensure your course oozes personality!
Note – the same rule applies for audio, especially if you’re video-shy like me!
Add interactive elements to convey personality and add energy
A course that just consists of words and images (and maybe video / audio) can be pretty boring, so by adding interactivity to your course, you keep the learner engaged.
What do I mean by interactivity? Well, as well as the traditional content type, you can also add elements to your course where the learner has to actually do something on the screen. This could be:
- Re-ordering objects into alphabetical order;
- Clicking boxes to reveal information or answers to questions;
- Using their mouse to form shapes;
